One of Oakland's original punk bands Green Day released their first major label album Dookie via Reprise Records in 1994 and since then has received tons of criticizsm and praise, but most importantly, made a cultural impact that helped define the genre of punk and bring it to the mainstream in the 90s. The Grammy-winning album features five promotional singles - some of which are the band's most well-known songs - "Welcome To Paradise," "Basket Case", "Longview", "She" and "When I Come Around." According to numerous music critics and journalists, Dookie has been labeled as one of the greatest punk rock albums of all time.
Dookie's influence remains downright inescapable. It has sold a staggering 20 million copies worldwide and stands out as "the first punk album to be certified Diamond by the RIAA for North American sales in excess of 10 million." Out of four 1995 GRAMMY Award nominations, it notably garnered Best Alternative Album. Rolling Stone touted it on the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" and Pitchfork retrospectively christened it "one of the greatest teenage wasteland albums of any generation."
To put it in perspective, Dookie has lived through five presidential administrations, Y2K, social media, a global pandemic, and the birth of countless acolytes.
What makes the 30th anniversary edition of Dookie is not only the never-before-heard demos and outtakes, but also the live versions of early Green Day songs at Woodstock '94 and their performance at Garatge Club in Barcelona (1994). Both performance tracks include songs from 1991's Kerplunk! such as "One Of My Lies", "2,000 Light Years Away", and "Christie Rd." The performances also include tracks from Green Day's debut album 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours - "Going To Pasalacqua", "Only Of You", "Paper Lanterns" and "Disappearing Boy."
