Have you guessed that Fall is my favorite season? Well... It is. And although I have a Halloween playlist made, (comin at 'cha soon) I have a separate Fall playlist that I wanted to share with you all.
The Music Is You - John Denver: Started this playlist off with one of my favorite songs by John Denver. The first time I heard this song was at Greta Van Fleet concerts when they covered the song before going into their own song, "You're The One" (yes, of course that song is on this playlist). It's such a calming song. He compares music to photos in this song, as he was very much into photography. John once said, "Photography is a way to communicate a feeling".
Lyrics that hook me:
"All of the pictures, all of the stories, and all of the magic, the music is you"
Annie's Song - John Denver: This is one I just recently discovered this summer on a road trip. It was such an amazing song, I couldn't believe I had never encountered it before. It's very emotional as well. Obviously, it's about John's wife, Annie. And he often makes comparisons of his love for her to nature, as he always sang in his songs.
Lyrics that hook me:
"You fill up my senses like a night in a forest, like the mountains in spring time"
"Come let me love you, let me give my life to you"
"Let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms"
Hurt - Johnny Cash: Who doesn't LOVE Johnny Cash? When I was lucky enough to go to Nashville last year and visit the Johnny Cash museum, I got to learn a lot about him. After that experience, I gained a ton of respect for him. There was one specific exhibit that kept playing this song over and over again on a loop. It was almost bringing me to tears. The fact that originally, this was a Nine Inch Nails songs and he, of all people, decided to cover it.
Lyrics that hook me:
"What have I become my sweetest friend, everyone I know goes away in the end"
"And you could have it all my empire of dirt, I will let you down, I will make you hurt"
I Won't Back Down - Johnny Cash: Another cover The Man In Black did, originally by Tom Petty. This cover gets to me because I believe he recorded this when he was sick.
Lyrics that hook me:
"You can stand me up at the gates of hell, but I won't back down"
"And I'll keep this world from dragging me down, gonna stand my ground, and I won't back down"
Age Of Man - Greta Van Fleet: I love listening to this song in the Fall because it's when this song and album were released. Being that in order to listen to this song before the album officially came out, you had to be in a park to listen to it, that was amazing. In nature. During the Fall time. It's such a unique and distinct song. It's also a great introduction to the album it's on.
Lyrics that hook me:
"March to the anthem of the heart, a brand new day a brand new start"
"And as we came into the clear to find ourselves where we are here"
"Beauty lives in every soul, the more you love the more you know"
You're The One - Greta Van Fleet: Yes, I am in love with this song. And yes, I am in love with this band. It's just... My favorite song. In the world. Ever. No other song ever will compare.
Lyrics that hook me:
"You're the one I want, you're the one I need, you're the one I had, so come on back to me"
"Babe, you're so young and pretty, but you're evil you oughta know"
"See where we've been, won't you hold my hand and stay a while"
Anthem - Greta Van Fleet: This one was quite exciting and different when I first heard it. Just speaking of how everyone should just agree to disagree. So peaceful. And the background vocals in the last part of the song are amazing.
Lyrics that hook me:
"A simple lyric to unite us all, you know"
"To save yourself in your own time, you'll have to stay and open up your own mind"
"And every glow in the twilight knows that the world is only what the world is made of"
"Just you and me can agree to disagree that the world is only what the world is made of"
The End (Stars Always Fade) - The Warning: This one was featured on another playlist. I just absolutely love this song so much. I feel so emotionally connected to it. Just the story ending. The album ending. Paulina's vocals in this song are absolutely amazing.
Lyrics that hook me:
"This is the end so long my friends, stars always seem to fade"
"They'll never know, 'Cause I'll never say anything about the memories in my head"
"There's nowhere to run, oh oh, what have I done"
Black Holes (Don't Hold on) - The Warning: Another song I am growing to be emotionally attached to (as I am currently reviewing XXI Century Blood by this band). I am just reminded as to how young yet mature this band is. Just thinking about how Paulina is even younger singing this song than she was in The End. Listening to this song and adding it to this playlist makes me extremely excited to review the album. It just completely blows my mind. It's very challenging to come up with words to describe how I even feel about this band and their music. It's all so above my head.
Lyrics that hook me:
"Spent all my love trying to forget"
"Ignore your calls and I throw the phone away, please believe me when I say"
"Don't hold on, don't hold on, don't hold on to me"
"'Cause I keep on coming, begging for more and I'm slowly falling, crashing below"
"And the things I used to hold so close they burn"
"And the venom starts to swallow me whole like black holes"
"And I know that you try to stay but my awful ways you will never overlook"
I Shall Be Released - The Band: Originally by Bob Dylan, I love this version.
Lyrics that hook me:
"I see my light come shining from the west down to the east, any day now any day now, I shall be released"
"They say every man needs protection, they say every man must fall"
I Will Always Love You - Dolly Parton: I absolutely LOVE Whitney Houston's version, specifically her vocals. The reason I chose this version is because I like the softness of Dolly's vocals and I had never heard the original version until a couple of months ago.
Lyrics that hook me:
"If I should stay I would only be in your way"
"And I will always love you"
"Bitter sweet memories that's all I am taking with me"
"Goodbye, please don't cry, we both know I'm not what you need"
"And I wish to you joy and happiness, but above all of this, I wish you love"
Dear Daughter - Halestorm: I absolutely love this song. It was first introduced to me after my sister saw them in concert. Another emotional song. But being a woman, I could see myself telling my future daughter (hopefully) things like words in this song. It's what all girls need to hear. At any point in their life.
Lyrics that hook me:
"Life throws you into the unknown, and you feel like you're our there all alone"
"These are words that every girl deserves the chance to hear"
"There will be love, there will be pain, there will be hope, there will be fear"
"And through it all year after year, stand or fall I will be right there for you"
"Dear Daughter, don't worry about those stupid girls"
"If they try to bring you down it's cause they're scared and insecure"
"Dear Daughter, don't change for any man, even if he promises the stars and takes you by the hand"
If Only - Hanson: First concert. When I was twelve. In 2008. This song is the second track from their sophomore album, This Time Around (yes, they made great music past MMMBop). When I was younger, I didn't really care for this song as much as I do now. It might have something to do with the fact when I saw them in 2017, during their 25th Anniversary tour, the singer was playing the harmonica and jumping up and down.
Lyrics that hook me:
"I want to hold you, love you, in my arms and then"
"I want to need you 'cause I need to be with you 'til the end"
"If only, I had the guts to feel this way"
"And if only, you'd look at me and want to say"
"I won't go, 'cause I need you"
This Time Around - Hanson: Title track from the album. The music video's super cool. It might be my favorite album of theirs. I'm not sure if it's just the nostalgia that I love when I listen to this song or what. But I absolutely love it. Might even be my favorite song by them.
Lyrics:
"You can't say I didn't give it, I won't wait another minute, we're on our way this time around"
"And we won't go down, yeah"
"I heard them say that dreams should stay in my head, well I feel ashamed of the thing that I said"
"I've started feelings like I don't want to fight, give in to the given and put out the light"
Been There Before - Hanson: Last Hanson one. This one is from their 2008 album, The Walk.
Lyrics that hook me:
"Tell me does it move you, does it soothe you, does it fill your heart and soul with the roots of rock n roll"
"Na na na na na na been there before, na na na na na na been there before"
Dreams - Fleetwood Mac: Of course I had to had Fleetwood Mac on here. Dreams is my favorite song of theirs. I was just lucky enough to find Rumors at a record store the other day after looking for it for almost two years.
Lyrics that hook me:
"Now hear you go again you say you want your freedom, well who am I to bring you down"
"Thunder only happens when it's raining, players only love you when they're playin'"
"Say women they will come and they will go"
"When the rain washes you clean, you'll know"
"Now here I go again I see the crystal visions, I keep my visions to myself"
Let It Be (Naked Version) - The Beatles: I thought this was the perfect way to end this playlist. Let It Be (Naked) is actually my preferred version as opposed to the 1970 version due to there are stripped down versions of the songs and you can hear the vocals more clearly.
Lyrics that hook me:
"When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be"
"Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be, whisper words of wisdom, let it be"
"And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be"
"And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, let it be"
