ON REPEAT: What I'm Listening To (July 2024)

We're back in the pits of Summer (Fall, where are you) to showcase another rendition of the songs we've been obsessing over the last month. We've got a good mix for ya with our favorites for July 2024.

Short Notice - Ochoa Boyz: Fresh off the 2020 album R-Type (read our review here), Ochoa Boyz present a track with a memorable chorus and provide amusing lyrics and melodic harmonies.

Runaway Blues - Greta Van Fleet: As we celebrate the one year anniversary of Starcatcher, I haven't been able to get "Runway Blues" off my mind. Sounds of wailing guitars and howling vocals provide an ode to Greta Van Fleet's love for blues-rock music.

The Sacrifice - The Warning: With powerhouse vocals and dark yet devoted vibes throughout its entirety, "The Sacrifice" comes from The Warning's 2018 album Queen Of The Murder Scene. Daniela Villarreal provides passionate vocals with emotional lyrics, along with raging guitar riffs.

Thirteen - Big Star: Soft acoustics and swaying vocals welcome you into the 1972 hit "Thirteen" from Big Star. The track is an innocent story of being in love as a teenager and how love beats all odds.

all-american bitch - Olivia Rodrigo: If the purple aesthetic of both her albums and an angsty attitude wasn't enough to pull me into Olivia Rodrigo's music, this song has kept me in a chokehold since its debut in 2023. Straight off her number one album GUTS, "all-american bitch" has captured hearts of women and girls of all ages around the world.

Night Changes - One Direction: "Night Changes" remains a timeless track since its 2014 debut and captures the essence of growing and maturing. Such sultry lyrics as "Her mother doesn't like that kind of dress" challenges early womanhood and breaking away from normalties.

Machine Gun - Badflower: With the current state of America and the world in general, this is always the perfect song for me to listen to. The song exclaims the feeling of being forced into the military and to "fight for your country," but you don't want to. The emotional lyrics - "They said we were the good guys, but what if we're the terrorists?" speaks volumes.
