You know you're curious to see what I've been listening to.

Yes, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, when Spotify Wrapped drops. It truly brings us all together and reminds us what life is all about: MUSIC. You’re definitely wondering what I’ve been listening to throughout all of 2021 (and no I will NOT be only writing about my top five songs which were all Greta Van Fleet). Here are a list of my top 15 songs from my Spotify Wrapped 2021 playlist. This list is completely accurate so hold on to your diapers, babies.
#15 Learning To Fly - Tom Petty: I know you’re already thinking this is going to be a playlist full of Classic Rock hits, but I promise it’s not! Although Classic Rock was my top genre, this song has become just a song that calms me down and makes me feel comfortable when I’m feeling anxious. I honestly don’t even remember listening to it that much over the year, but I feel it’s somewhat always playing in the background of my everyday life.
#14 Annie’s Song - John Denver: This song probably cracked my top 10 last year and I still fully embraced it this year. This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard and it’s even on my Fall playlist. While I was in a Lyft going from Dixon to San Francisco in October, this song was etched upon my mind as I watched the nature of California wake up early in the morning. This song embraces me every time I listen to it and I can’t ever get enough.
#13 You’re The One - Greta Van Fleet: Warning: There will most likely be a ton of GVF songs in this list… I don’t make the rules. It’s not my fault I spent over ten thousand minutes listening to them. Or maybe it is. This song is my most-listened to song EVER on Spotify currently, however, I’m almost certain another one will pass it soon. Last year, this was my top song and this year it hasn’t even cracked my top 10. But that’s okay. We’re always growing and changing. However, this song was my first song by GVF that I fell in love with and once its recording was released on Anthem Of The Peaceful Army, I almost didn’t love another song as much in the world… Until 2021.
#12 That’s What I Like - Bruno Mars: This is kind of funny this one is towards the top. Why was I listening to a 2016 pop hit from Bruno Mars on repeat in 2021 when I normally wouldn’t do that? I lost someone special to my heart this year and one of the only ways I could cope with the loss was listening to this song over and over again, being that the person showed me this song and embraced me with it every time they played it. This one’s for you, JJ.
#11 Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl) - Looking Glass: I definitely listened to this track on repeat through the beginning months of this year when I wanted to be at the beach, in the lake, etc. It also became one of my favorite Spring/Summer songs to listen to this year, but it just missed the top 10. This ‘70s classic hit is catchy and will have you dreaming of sailing and being on beaches in winter.
#10 Welcome To The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance: Am I surprised this is how my top 10 starts? Absolutely not! I’ve embraced the fact that this song is still in the top 10 and although it may have been higher on the list in the past, this is one of those songs I still hold close to my heart and will most likely never get over how much I love it and what it does for me every single song. Someday, SOMEDAY, I will see MCR.
#9 Tears Of Rain - Greta Van Fleet: Not sure if I’m fully comfortable expressing how many times I’ve cried while listening to this song, but it was definitely my favorite when I first took a listen to The Battle At Garden’s Gate. I thought it was the most beautiful song on the album (still think that) and has such an amazing message and story behind it that if you’re a GVF fan or even if you’re not, this song will work you in ways you never even knew were possible.
#8 drivers license - jxdn: What’s so funny to me is the original version of this song is probably somewhere on everyone’s playlist for this year, but not mine. I was shown this version when it came out and even though I wasn’t a fan of the song, I fully embraced this version and ended up listening to it a lot throughout the year. Something about jxdn, what he can do with music, he turned a pop track into a pop-punk track and made it is.
#7 No Love In LA - Palaye Royale: If there was any song from Palaye Royale that I was obsessed with this year, this was definitely it. It embraced the fakeness of Hollywood and called out the city’s richest and finest members for leaving others out.
#6 The One - The Lemon Twigs: Diving into the Twigs’ music in 2021 was an adventure for me. Listening to Do Hollywood, Go To School, and Songs For The General Public was one hell of a ride and although more songs are further down my list, "The One" took the cake. Along with how fun and upbeat the song is, the music video features the brothers running around town promoting themselves and being unique as they are. This song is one of my essentials for 2021.
#5 Safari Song - Greta Van Fleet: Alright, here we go. There’s no turning back now. You’ve made it this far. "Safari Song" has been one of my favorite GVF songs to hear live and being able to hear it LIVE in person again for the first time in two and a half years was electric. I always feel so motivated by the song and it’s a song that makes me feel attractive.
#4 Trip The Light Fantastic - Greta Van Fleet: Somehow this song ended up here. I’ve definitely listened to this song a lot, but I didn’t think it took THIS spot. I would say "The Barbarians" deserved it more, but here we are. This song always takes me to another dimension as the band’s music does and its lyrics have pulled me in so many times.
#3 Light My Love - Greta Van Fleet: Another one I’m not too sure about, I definitely love this song and have listened to it a tremendous amount of time, but I didn’t expect it to be this high. This song has blown the absolute f up on Tik Tok this year and is receiving the recognition it deserves. This song has been around for a hot minute and has been heard in soundcheck over the years. It’s even better live and fully embraces you in the moment. Sam Kiszka OWNS this song and nobody can convince me otherwise.
#2 Stardust Chords - Greta Van Fleet: This one is COMPLETELY accurate, if this was not in the spot it is, I probably would have contacted someone at Spotify. I am in awe of how much I love this song (I literally have a playlist on my personal account called “stardust chords nation”) and I am so obsessed with it. I have no idea what it’s even half about, but the lyrics “Even sinners go to drink the wine, break the bread” threw me off the horse because I have not seen that in action in a long time. There’s just something about this one that captivated me and will not let me go. I have to listen to this song everyday, no matter if I want to or not.
#1 Heat Above - Greta Van Fleet: Is anyone surprised? Literally anyone? God only knows how many times I’ve actually listened to this song since there’s a cut off at some point for Wrapped, not to mention I’ve listened to this on vinyl, cd, on the radio, the music video, etc. Anyway, 450. 450 times is how much I listened to this song. When I say I only listen to one song, I truly mean it. That is insane. This song debuted in February 2021, a week before my birthday, in total cabin fever winter mode, and my heart SOARED. I have taken this song with me this entire year and it never ever lets me down. Hearing this be the opening song for GVF’s Strange Horizons debut in Nashville was something I didn’t even know I needed to experience. Everything about this song is so beautiful and mesmerizing. I don’t know if any other song in the world will be able to top it for me and that’s okay. “Ascending to the stars as one” are lyrics I now live by and are tattooed on my arm. That’s how much this band means to me. That’s why this is my top song.
